Frozen Doggy Treats for Fido

Does your canine pal come running whenever you open the fridge? If there’s one thing dogs are pretty much always excited about, it’s treats. As the dog days of summer approach, your cute pet may also enjoy a cool snack on sweltering days. Here, a Moorpark, CA vet lists some great frozen treats for Fido.

Doggy Ice Cream

To make Fido his very own ice cream, start by mixing plain yogurt with natural peanut butter, ripe bananas, or pureed pumpkin. You can also use sodium-free broth. To customize this summer snack, add shredded beef or chicken, cheese, bacon bits, or bits of kibble or dog biscuit. You can also add fruits and veggies, such as bananas, blueberries, or carrots.

This one is super easy! Cook up some hamburger for your canine buddy. Add cheese and bacon bits if you like. Pour in some water or sodium free broth to thin it out, then divide the mixture into small portions and freeze. You can use an ice cube tray, or pick up some cute bone molds for your furry friend.

Want to really get that cute tail wagging? Pour some water or sodium-free broth into an ice cube tray or wax paper cups. Next, add chew sticks or doggy biscuits, and then freeze. Give Fido one or two at a time on hot days.

Broth Bites

Pour sodium-free broth into an ice cube tray. Next, add some apple slices (no seeds or pips), cheese, and bacon bits. Or, add some boneless, cooked, chicken; peas; carrots; and brown rice. Freeze in small portions.

Banana/Peanut Butter Bites

Bananas and natural peanut butter form the basis of this yummy snack. Mix the two together, and then freeze in small portions. Instant happy pup!

Gourmet Gulps

Pick up a roll of precooked lamb or chicken. You can also get a roll of gourmet dog food. Pop it in the freezer, and slice off a thin piece when you want to give your furry pal a special treat.

Feel free to experiment and see what flavors your canine companion likes best. Just be sure to only use ingredients that are safe for Fido. Ask your vet for more information on safe and unsafe foods.
